About Jessica

Hello and welcome! I’m Jessica Sofia Newlyn, LMT, BS, a national board certified graduate of the Cayce/Reilly School of Massotherapy. I have been practicing massage in Charlottesville, VA since 2005. (I was formerly known as Jessica Newlyn Baraff and then Jessica Newlyn Beers - life has happened!) My specialty is gently and thoroughly addressing deep patterns of tension and relieving pain using a blend of integrative techniques. I enjoy weaving together relaxing Swedish massage, tissue reseting trigger point therapy, meditative Craniosacral therapy and cleansing breath work. My intention is to help my clients achieve productive and noticeable changes in tension and stress during each session.

I have pursued advanced training in preconception, pregnancy and postpartum massage with Claire Marie Miller, Mayan Abdominal Massage with Dr. Rosita Arvigo, and biodynamic Craniosacral therapy with Janet Evergreen. I have also studied Thai Yoga Bodywork and received level 2 Reiki attunement, and I have been an enthusiastic yoga student since 2007. I have a bachelor of science degree in biology from the University of Mary Washington.

I am blessed to continue a family tradition of helping to relieve suffering as a 4th generation bodyworker. My great grandparents gave physiotherapy treatments and taught exercise classes. My mom trained as a massage therapist when I was five years old, and trading shoulder and foot rubs was a way of life during my childhood. Receiving bodywork is immensely important to me and vital to my own self care, and I have received countless treatments throughout my life. I believe that receiving so much bodywork has given me a felt map of the body, and a sense of what kind of touch is truly therapeutic and helpful.

I have always especially loved working with pregnant women, and since becoming a mother I have a special place in my heart for children and all parents as well.
